Although coryza and common colds will be resolved without further medical treatments, it can also be a symptom of more severe diseases or condition. so when a person experiences coryza along with other symptoms like changes in mental status, behavioral changes, clear fluid discharge even in the absence of colds, head deformity, persistent vomiting, severe headache and uncontrollable bleeding, they should notify the physician right away.

Avian influenza, also called bird flu, is a disease of birds that is found in wild waterfowl such as ducks, geese, and swans. This disease can also spread to domestic poultry, including backyard flocks. There are many strains or types of bird flu. One type of bird flu is called Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), and it is lethal to domestic poultry. Waterfowl appear to carry the virus without appearing sick. The currently circulating strains have not affected humans. These viruses are not the same as the H5N1 strain that has sickened people sick elsewhere in the world. For more information, you can view the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service publication, "Avian Influenza: Be on the Lookout (PDF)" (574 KB).

Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza - Presence in the United States

Different strains of avian influenza have been detected in wild and domestic species. An outbreak involving H5N1, H5N2, and H5N8 occurred in North America beginning in December 2014 and ending in July 2015. The H5N2 strain caused considerable mortality in domestic poultry operations in the Midwest in 2015. More information on HPAI is available on the USDA-APHIS website (link leaves DEC website).

Bird flu viruses are commonly found in wild waterfowl in the United States, but usually affect small numbers of birds and generally do not cause obvious illness.

No mammalian cases of the currently circulating virus have been identified. However, backyard poultry has been affected in various states. Other avian influenza strains are capable of sickening pets. It is always best to make sure your pet has been checked by a veterinarian prior to purchase. If your pet has been exposed to a dead bird, routine testing of pets for bird flu is not necessary and is currently unavailable.

No vaccinations are currently available for pets, but you can protect your pet by not letting them roam outside where they could be exposed to sick animals or eat the remains of dead wildlife. Do not let hunting dogs consume dead waterfowl.

If you have concerns about your pet's health, it is best to contact a veterinarian. There have been no confirmed cases of bird flu transmission between humans and pets.

Currently, certain dead wild birds are being tested so that if HPAI bird flu occurs in New York, we will recognize it right away. State and Federal agriculture and wildlife agencies have a list of birds that are of most concern and have begun testing these birds. Most birds do not need to be tested.

Waterfowl, such as ducks and geese, and raptors, such as hawks and eagles, are the top priority to be tested. The vast majority of backyard birds - robins, sparrows, pigeons, cardinals, etc. - do not need to be reported or tested. Avian influenza usually involves migratory waterfowl, not backyard songbirds. If you are concerned about dead waterfowl in your area, contact your regional Department of Environmental Conservation office.

There is no need to report a single dead bird unless it is an eagle. Dead crows are still used to track West Nile virus in some situations. Other types of birds do not have to be reported unless there are several dead birds in the same area. Call your regional Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) office if you see more than two dead birds in the same place. DEC will decide if testing is needed. To dispose of a dead bird, use a shovel and wear gloves to double-bag the dead bird and throw it in the trash, or bury it at least three feet deep, away from a stream or other water source. Always wash your hands thoroughly after disposing of a dead bird in this way.

There is no need to change your normal practices for feeding backyard birds at this time. If the HPAI bird flu does occur in New York, experts may have different advice. It will depend on what has been learned about the role of wild birds in spreading bird flu to humans. However, you should not feed ducks, geese, and other waterfowl. Unlike backyard birds, waterfowl are more likely to be infected when bird flu is present. There are many other reasons that you should not feed ducks and geese:

  • It increases the chance of spreading many diseases that are common among waterfowl.
  • It makes them tame and causes them to become a nuisance.
  • They lose their natural behaviors.

It is best to enjoy your local wildlife from a distance!

Last time I checked, there was a brand at Trader Joes without Aspartame. Hope that helps.
Eric

I tried a friend’s pur gum and got spry gum at the health food store. I like pur better it’s available on amazon I just ordered a 50 PC bag for about $4

OK I’m amazed. I’m 31, drinking diet coke daily for 16 years. I’ve stopped one other time, and started again recently for some trivial reason. I’ve been back at it for 6 weeks and in that time I’ve been ill twice and had 2 herpes outbreaks. I connected all that and decided to quit again. Today being day 2, I’m so nauseous I can’t eat, I’ve been up all night with this all over pain. Its so bad a heating pad is the only relief. The headaches have been horrid as well. My husband says I was every bit as bad the last time though I can’t quite remember. It was only in may. I’m quite surprised there are folks who don’t think this is real. I’m a believer seeing as how I’m tied to the bed at the moment. Being exhausted and not being able to sleep is torture.

Hope you can hang in there. I experienced the same withdrawal and it lasted 3 weeks. After 4 weeks I’m feeling better than I have in years. I drank orange juice a lot…it really seemed to help because I couldn’t eat either. The flu-like symptoms are the worse along with profuse night sweats. Take heart…it will pass.

I am having similar symptoms, too nauseous to eat but I force myself with toast and it does help. Also, the all over pain at night! Add to that some dandy dizzy spells and a few headaches. I’m bummed it will take close to a month. I have noticed that drinking a lot of water does help. I will NEVER let that stuff in our house again. I’d like to warn you that I think stevia has it’s problems too. I’ve seen some articles saying they are finding some issues with that too. I think organic sugar is the way to go.

Interesting! My intuition always told me to do 1/2 Organic Stevia (Omica) and 1/2 Raw Honey or Maple Syrup. Seems going with this “middle way” takes care of most (if not all) the problems Stevia may cause.
In the end, I would go with what has worked for hundreds of years. Real, natural, organic sugars like honey or maple syrup in moderation are great. Everything else is an experiment. We do not know, what we do not know.
Eric

I had the exact same withdrawal symptoms. If you hang in There for a couple more weeks you will feel better. Just sleep as much as your day permits. The cold chills and sweats will subside. Never again for me either. Please know that there are many who have kicked the diet Pepsi habit who are pulling for you as we hare suffered the same effects.

Thank you to all who have given testimonies here. I came down with a ‘bug’ 8 days ago. Been drinking diet side for many years. What I notice when I get a virus is that I can’t drink diet Pepsi so it takes me a very long time to recuperate from any illness. Of course, as soon as I can, I go back on the diet soda. I’ve been having all the symptoms you have mentioned. The fatigue is the worse. Sleeping about 14 hours a day…or more. I’ll be emptying my stash as soon as I’m feeling better. The support of this site has been very helpful.

I’ve been a heavy Tab drinker for over 40 years. When Diet Coke came on the market, they stopped advertising Tab (but I can still get it at the store.) I tried Diet Coke and two cans later reacted very badly to it and went back to the store to get Tab. I immediately calmed down.

I wrote Coca-Cola to find out the percentage of aspartame because it is mixed with saccharin. (I also read somewhere that even though saccharin had been safe for years that once aspartame came along the makers of saccharin were told they could be in limited products if they contained a cancer warning.) The percentage of aspartame in Tab (at least when I inquired) was much less that Diet Coke. I’ve stuck with Tab with the years, and to be honest, I’ve read information about aspartame for probably a decade, but kept shoving it out of my mind because I’m addicted.

I also wrote Coca-Cola again, many years later about the possibility of using Stevia. They said that they were talking about (if I remember correctly) about using something new they had called Truvia, (that I believe they were already using in Canada) and it’s a mixture of Stevia and aspartame.

I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in 1990, so if it was added around 1983 that equals about 7 years after they added aspartame (lower amounts) into Tab. The pain became so severe and limiting that I eventually became disabled and haven’t lived much of a life. I also had other health problems with my spine.

For many years I’ve tried all kinds of cleanses, etc., however I never gave up the Tab. I tried numerous times, but would go back.

My doctors have basically done all they can and I have been on a search for other healing modalities. Even when I’ve “confessed” to my doctor that I drank an easy 6 cans of more of diet soda every day, they never said a word.

Decades ago, when I was healthier, I was juicing almost daily, and I realized that’s what probably kept it at bay. All the research I’ve been reading says there are a couple main elements to health, one of them being how we handle stress, and when we are over stressed, the weakest part link goes first. Of course, drinking a “legal” (should be illegal) substance containing aspartame is going to get you.

I had seen this movie “Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead” some time back and I guess I wasn’t ready then. But I kept thinking about it, and I remembered how good I felt when I was juicing regularly. The movie is inspiring, and it occurred to me that it is probably my answer because the people in this film reversed their illnesses and got off of all medications. It occurred to me by flooding their body with nutrition turned back on their immune system, and once you do that your body will self heal, which it knows how to do.

I was set to start and then I realized I had to get off of caffeine… get off of Tab. These people fasted anywhere up to 60 days on juice, but one woman did it for 10 or 17 days and her blinding migraines ended. And this is one thing the drug companies (hopefully) can’t touch. The less we need them the better for us. (I do buy organic vegetables. With all these modified foods it’s getting scary about how much nutrition we get.)

As I go through my withdrawals I wanted to find what other people have experienced. As I get the Tab/aspartame out of my body I’m drinking juice as well as eating and it makes the transition easier. I can really feel it when I don’t drink my juice. I’m hoping that as I become completely free of Tab/aspartame that I will transition into a complete juice fast.

It may sound extreme but I figure after living in extreme chronic pain for over 23 years, if I could turn on my immune system and let it do it’s job I could see a vast improvement or a complete reversal into good health in 60 days.

Fluish Feeling Meaning and Causes of Flu-Like Sensation

At times a person may feel unwell or is in discomfort without being able to identify any specific symptoms like nausea or pain. It is a generalized sensation that cannot be localized to a certain part of the body. This is commonly referred to as a fluish feeling or a flu-like feeling. The correct medical term for this sensation is malaise. The flu (seasonal influenza) is the most common recurrent ailment that humans experience throughout life. One of the main features of this viral infection is malaise which precedes the other symptoms and persists throughout the illness. Therefore it is only natural that most people describe malaise as feeling fluish or a flu-like sensation since they are very familiar with this sensation.

There is no specific explanation for malaise or the fluish feeling. It is a sensation that cannot be definitely measured and may vary from person to person. Although subjective, some features that may be noted includes:

  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Dizziness or lightheaded
  • Changes in blood pressure
  • Changes in heart rate
  • Changes in blood glucose
  • Changes in blood gas levels
  • Nausea
  • Irritability

The severity of these symptoms may vary from person to person and is also dependent on the underlying cause. However, it is important to note that a fluish feeling is not always due to the flu (influenza) or any related systemic infection. It may be experienced with a number of conditions like diabetes mellitus, heart attack, cancer or autoimmune diseases. Even in these instances, malaise may precede the onset of other more definitive symptoms.

Therefore a fluish feeling should not be taken as a sign of the upcoming flu particularly in a person who is at high risk of developing other conditions. This especially applies to people over the age of 40 years, who are obese, with a history of cigarette smoking and family history of ailments like heart attacks, stroke, diabetes and cancer. The elderly need to be particularly cautious with regards to a fluish feeling.

Malaise is a common symptom in a wide range of conditions. It may occur for a short period in acute diseases or acute flareups of chronic diseases. Sometimes malaise is persistent for much longer periods – even months and years.

Infections are one of the most common cause of the fluish feeling even when it is not the influenza virus involved. It is the systemic infections, most of which are viral, that are more likely to contribute to malaise.

  • Influenza – seasonal flu and H1N1 (swine flu)
  • Lyme disease
  • Rhinovirus infection (common cold)
  • Malaria
  • HIV/AIDS
  • Chronic viral hepatitis
  • Tuberculosis

There are various other systemic infections that cause cause malaise. The presence of a fever and swollen lymph nodes is a common indicator of an infection. Travelers to endemic areas, particularly in developing nations without proper vaccinations, should be cautious about malaise as it may be the first sign of an infection.

Any condition that compromises heart function will lead to malaise. This includes changes to heart rate and rhythm. Blood can therefore not be adequately re-oxygenated and distributed throughout the body as is usually the case. Vascular conditions are less likely to cause malaise.

You should be aware of the early signs and symptoms of poisoning. It is important to remove the person from the source of exposure quickly. Remove contaminated clothing and wash off any chemical which has soaked through. You may save a life.

  • Be able to determine whether or not a person has been poisoned by a pesticide.
  • Learn to recognize kinds of poisoning and their symptoms.
  • Become familiar with chemical families and their toxicity.

cefadroxil sandoz 500 mg d'alcool

I am 48 years old now. I cannot remember when I last had a solid night of sleep, my body is in constant pain from head to toe and I have IBS. I have gained/lost up to 30-50 pounds over the years with dieting, but seem to always gain the weight back. I have had horrible brain fog and on some days I feel like a zombie just walking or driving the earth! It's been hell!

I had a hysterectomy five years ago because I had a cyst as big as a grapefruit on my ovary. I still have one ovary left. Last August, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and I am currently going through radiation treatments for that. I did find my lump early on and it had not spread to the lymph nodes but I still had surgery to remove the tumor and now radiation. Chemo was not necessary since I caught it early on.

I recently found a female doctor who is more into the natural approach of treating the female body. She took nine tubes of blood from me and also had me collect my urine and bowel for 24 hours to send off for testing. I found out my estrogen is low and my testosterone did not even register, it was so low. I also found out that I am vitamin D deficient, calcium deficient, magnesium deficient, and that I have inherited a mutation gene from my parents for MTHFR, which is a lack of folate that can cause coronary heart disease/heart attack and stroke! She put me on a vitamin called Methyl Balance that she said I should stay on for life and said my sons should have blood work done to see if they have inherited the gene also.

I also found out that my T4 for thyroid is not producing T3, and you need both to balance your thyroid levels. I will work to balance my hormones later, after I finish my breast cancer treatment. I truly believe is what caused me to get breast cancer in the first place: I am estrogen positive, and I believe it caused the cyst that led me to hysterectomy. I also believe this is why I had difficulty getting pregnant with my second child and probably the cause many years ago of irregular and painful periods.

I have been to nine different doctors over the last 15 years and no other doctor has been able, nor has taken the time, to help me. I have about 15 different bottles of prescription drugs that were prescribed to me but I have taken hardly any of them, or I would try them and find the side effects were worse than the illness. Unfortunately, my insurance does not cover the holistic MD I found, I have worked for the same employer for 28 years paying for medical insurance, and when I finally found a doctor who could help me, they will not pay for her, or for all the vitamins she has prescribed for me. This is frustrating and does not make sense!

33) I had many of the symptoms everyone here has mentioned and can't finish my degree due to all of this. My symptoms began five years ago and I'm now 49.

At the insistence of my chiropractor, I sought help from a functional medicine DO. Has been a tremendous help. My progesterone is 17, and I have low thyroid and adrenals, plus I'm not absorbing vitamins and nutrients.

I began with 100mg of bio-identical progesterone from compounding pharmacy and over the past two years, I'm now up to 300 mg. Be aware though, that Prometrium brand is made with peanut oil so if you have an issue with that tell the doctor and get it from a compounding pharmacy. They can make it without peanut oil.

For mental fog/blurry vision, my doctor prescribed building up (can cause diarrhea if too fast) to 4,000 mgs vitamin C buffered powder in water first thing in the morning and it has worked wonders. Also the Calm brand magnesium has helped with sleep and anxiety. I started Armour thyroid 2 weeks ago and am feeling better already. My depression has lifted, thank God, as I was considering asking for an anti-depressant.

Also, my doctor recommended a gluten free diet which has made a huge difference as well with my stubborn weight gain since all this started. I also highly recommend the book “Core Balance” by Marcelle Pick. It explains all about hormones and what to do. She has a great website too! Hang in there ladies. You are not alone!

31) I don't know how active this site is, but I just wanted to share my thoughts. I stopped taking birth control and a lot of changes happened. For years I had severe anxiety. My periods vanished completely then came back irregular with heavy bleeding and a lot of clotting. I did not sleep well and my mind was always busy, busy. I was fatigued and had no sex drive. I was not me, not alive. I felt like I was just coasting from day to day struggling to get through.

Then I saw a holistic doctor as all traditional doctors wanted to do was put me back on the pill. This doctor was wonderful. She listened to everything I said and did an ultrasound and hormone test. My progesterone is low at 18L. The normal range, in case anyone in wondering for premenopausal women, is between 75 - 250L. My estradiol was also low at 1.2L. Normal should be 1.3 - 3.3 for a premenopausal women.

My doctor gave me bio-identical (natural) progesterone made at a compounding pharmacy just for me. I take 150mg at night which I am to reduce to 50mg at the onset of my period. It has only been two weeks, but already I feel a difference. My anxiety is so much better and I sleep better. My headaches are less frequent.

The role of iodine at these other sites are not fully known although the iodine found in the mammary glands is believed to be important to the growth of babies and fetuses.

Humans get iodine chiefly from diet. It can be obtained from plants grown in soils rich in the element. However, soils lose their iodine stores the longer they are farmed.

Seafood is a major dietary source of iodine. Of seafood, kelp is the richest in iodine and the high amount of kelp consumed by Japanese is responsible for the low rate of hypothyroidism in the country.

Besides plants and seafood, most people obtain iodine from iodized salts.

Iodized salts are fortified with iodine and they serve as the major source of this essential, trace element for most people.

The recommended daily dietary intake of iodine is 150 micrograms for adults. However, pregnant women require 220 micrograms and lactating women should get 290 micrograms per day. 90 – 130 micrograms per day is the amount of iodine recommended for children while infants need 110 – 130 micrograms.

The upper tolerable limit of daily iodine intake is 1,100 micrograms for adults.

The average adult actually only needs 70 micrograms per day to produce thyroid hormones. The rest of the daily dietary intake is required for the optimal functioning of the other tissues and organs where iodine is also found in the body.

Maintaining the right balance of iodine is important because too high and too low iodine levels can cause serious harm to the body.

When there is little iodine in the body, the thyroid reduces the number of thyroid hormones produced.

Therefore, iodine deficiency can lead to hypothyroidism. On the other hand, too much iodine may cause hyperthyroidism since the production of thyroid hormones is not slowed down even after optimal levels are attained.

Iodine toxicity can also result from taking too much of the trace mineral and it can be just as severe as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.

The best test to determine if you are taking a good, high strength echinacea is the tongue test. After you have taken the tincture, the back of your tongue should feel numb or tingly. This feeling will soon pass, but you know you are using a good quality product. So when you feel the cold coming on - reach for the echinacea tincture. It is important to try to take echinacea before the full onset of a cold or flu to give the best chance of a swift recovery.

No treatment of colds would be complete without Garlic and Ginger.

Garlic has a distinctive taste and smell and it was very highly thought of by the ancient Egyptians, who ensured that the slaves building the Great Pyramids at Cheops were given a daily supply.

The Romans also acknowledged garlic's strengthening powers and fed it to their soldiers before battle. Garlic has anti-bacterial properties that help the immune system to fight infection, it is an excellent boost to the immune system.

The reason for this is garlic contains several helpful compounds, including allicin, one of the plant kingdom's most potent antibiotics. Garlic combines well with echinacea and together make a strong fighting force against infections.

Onion is a close relative of Garlic and has similar properties, containing similar antiviral chemicals. Use onions and leeks in your cooking when you have a cold or are around people who do.

Ginger is another of natures' antiviral herbs. It contains nearly a dozen antiviral compounds. Ginger is pain relieving, antiseptic and antioxidant. It is valuable for preventing and treating colds, sore throats and inflammation of mucus membranes.

Ginger reduces pain and fever and has a mild sedative effect that will encourage rest. And it is tasty! (with no lingering odours!) Drink a tea, or soak fresh ginger in hot water, take as a tincture and include it in your food. Ginger is also delicious in a fruit smoothy (a mix of soft chilled fruits put in a blender).
