Of course mainland ethnic Chinese have not suffered any noticeable calcium deficiency - or osteoporosis. In addition - ethnic Chinese eating a traditional diet of fish, vegetables and rice alos have low levels of cholesterol and heart disease.
On the other hand - Westerners in developed countries with abundant dairy foods in the diet have the highest levels of osteoporosis and other chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease and arthritis.
- This is at odds with the 'general rule' peddled by dairy corporations that milk prevents osteoporosis
Recent clinical studies have shown that consuming dairy products at the recommended level (three serves a day) does not reliably prevent osteoporosis. In fact it can contribute to bone density loss. A 1992 study showed that women on dairy-rich diets actually had a higher rate of bone fracture from osteoporosis that those on a dairy-free diet. It was found that the level of calcium in the body was a delicate balance:
- Calcium absorption from the diet offset by
- Leaky Gut: allowing nutrients to leave to body before absorption
- The loss of calcium leached out by eating animal protein, caffeine, salt and also by smoking and physical inactivity.
So prevention of osteoporosis is not just a matter of eating calcium-rich foods. Firstly the calcium must be in a form that is readily absorbed and secondly we must take care with factors that cause calcium loss, like Leaky Gut
I think I might have food intolerance: What should I do?
Beginning with our free e-book, we can help you establish if you are suffering from gluten or wheat intolerance or if your symptoms indicate an intolerance to dairy, fructose or yeast. You may even be suffering from more than one food intolerance.
Doing nothing can be a risk. Undiagnosed food intolerance can cause serious long-term health problems like osteoporosis, anaemia and many others.

Mosquito season is just around the corner, which means the U.S. and other countries are ramping up mosquito control in an attempt to contain the rapidly spreading Zika virus.
But as TIME recently reported in our cover story, authorities still expect the U.S. to see some locally transmitted cases of the virus this summer. One challenge is that it can be difficult to track the exact number of people infected with Zika, because the symptoms are similar to other diseases—and the vast majority of those who are infected don’t show any symptoms at all.
For those who do develop symptoms, the most common ones that characterize a Zika infection are red eyes, joint pain, rash and fever. If a person has a rash with or without a fever and another one of the four symptoms, that is considered a probable case of Zika. Still, there are other ailments that can cause similar symptoms, like the flu or other mosquito-borne illnesses like dengue.
Right now, the people at risk of getting infected are those who travel to one of the over 40 countries with ongoing Zika virus transmission. Should a person start having symptoms of the virus within two weeks of traveling to an affected region, it may be a good idea to see a doctor and determine whether to be tested. All pregnant women who travel to regions with Zika should be tested regardless of whether they have symptoms, health experts advise. Pregnant women are especially vulnerable since Zika is now proven to cause microcephaly, a birth defect, in infants. Partners of pregnant women should also be aware that the virus can be sexually transmitted, which is why health officials are advising men to abstain or use contraception for six months if they have been exposed and don’t want to pass it on. Women who may have been exposed should wait at least eight weeks before trying to get pregnant.
Currently, only state and federal laboratories can test for the virus and sometimes results can take weeks to get back. You can read more about whether you should be tested here.
A medically supervised opiate withdrawal in a controlled environment can make the withdrawal much safer and more comfortable. It also provides a much a higher chance of success. In the past, opiate-dependent patients had no choice but to undergo conventional detoxification procedures in nonmedical facilities such as a drug rehab; It caused them to suffer through an unnecessary debilitating and sometimes even dangerous withdrawal syndrome.

Natural opiates are alkaloids found in the opium poppy plant, and examples are morphine, codeine, and thebaine. Semi-synthetic opioids are created from natural opiates and include oxycodone, hydrocodone, and hydromorphone. Fully synthetic opioids include fentanyl, methadone, and tramadol.
People who use opiates for the medical condition can also become physically dependent and require a medical opiate detox. One can take these medications safely over a relatively short period. However, most people become dependent when long-term therapy is needed. This is what makes pain management so tricky. Opiates are prized for their ability to defeat pain. Unfortunately, tolerance, dependence, and addiction can set in, even when the drugs are used correctly. Once this happens, the body needs more of the drug to experience the same effect. This increases the risk of a drug overdose.
Drug overdose is the leading cause of death in the United States. The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) reports that 100 people die of a drug overdose daily, and 46 people are due to prescription opioid overdose.
Many opioid withdrawal treatment programs, often rely on “replacement” or “substitution” medications such as methadone, Suboxone ( Buprenorphine) or Subutex. These medications are also opioids and may prolong the length of the opiate addiction. Eventually, people dependent on these drugs will require detoxification. For some, Medication-Assisted Therapy (MAT) might be safer than street drugs; for others, being completely opioid-free is the best option. Choosing the appropriate medical detox or the best rapid detox center can dictate the quality and efficiency of the opiate withdrawal treatment.
The Waismann Method ® of rapid detoxification has demonstrated tremendous success in getting patients comfortably and safely through opiate withdrawal. Recognized as the best opiate treatment center in the world, by offering exceptional medical care and individualized assessment.

Dealing With Yeast Die-Off Reactions
Many yeast sufferers, after starting a program for yeast control, have experienced a worsening of their condition. This can of course be a most unsettling and discouraging development and if not understood and addressed effectively, may not only forestall one's progress, but possibly bring it to a screeching halt. We therefore want to share our insights and strategies to minimize the chances of suffering unnecessarily from yeast die-off reactions.
Common yeast die-off symptoms, some individuals may develop one or several of these concurrently
Fatigue, brain fog, gastro-intestinal distress such as nausea, gas, bloating, diarrhea or constipation, low grade fever, headache, sore throat, body itch, muscle and / or joint soreness or pain, feeling as if coming down with a flu.
Be aware that contrary to popularly held misconception, yeast die-off reactions are not a sign that yeast treatment is succeeding. It is an indication that yeast cells are dying, usually in large numbers, and is more of an indicator of the system's toxic overload. More poisons are being released than the body can adequately cope with at one time. In most cases, yeast die-off is a sign that the system's eliminatory pathways are overburdened or as oftentimes happens, blocked, as in constipation and liver stress.
When properly undertaken, treatment for yeast related health problems does not lead to yeast die-off reactions.
Individuals with elevated heavy metal levels may have special problems with so called "yeast die-off reactions" more information
Strategies to minimize discomfort and shorten the duration of yeast die-off reactions
§ Reduce your intake of antifungal remedies temporarily. Some individuals may have to discontinue altogether for a few days.
§ More water should be consumed, we recommend 4-6 fluid ounces of warm or hot water every forty-five minutes, throughout the day.
§ It is imperative to rest when experiencing yeast die-off reactions, they will otherwise worsen in severity. Get to sleep as early as possible.
There is no need to stop hunting waterfowl. However, waterfowl hunters should always take simple precautions to protect themselves from exposure to disease, including:
- Do not handle obviously sick birds or birds found dead.
- Keep your game birds cool, clean, and dry.
- Do not eat, drink, or smoke while cleaning harvested waterfowl.
- Wear rubber gloves when cleaning waterfowl.
- Wash your hands with soap and water after cleaning waterfowl.
- Clean up tools and surfaces immediately with hot, soapy water and disinfect with a mixture of 10 percent household chlorine bleach in water.
- Thoroughly cook harvested waterfowl (165º Fahrenheit).
You don't have to be concerned that neighbor's poultry and animals will expose you to bird flu at this time. If HPAI bird flu does occur in New York, additional guidance from experts will be developed.
It is safe for a child to take part in projects that involve hatching eggs and raising chicks. Chickens that get infected with bird flu become ill and often stop laying eggs, so there is little risk of bird flu. However, chicks can carry other diseases such as salmonella. Projects involving hatching eggs and raising chicks should minimize hand contact and require thorough hand washing if contact does occur.
There is no evidence that properly cooked poultry or eggs can be a source of infection from bird flu. Because other common diseases such as salmonella infection can be spread by eating undercooked poultry or eggs, always cook them thoroughly. Wash your hands with soap and hot water after touching any raw meat. Make sure to clean cutting boards and counters used for food preparation immediately after use to prevent cross contamination with other foods.
You cannot get bird flu from Canada goose droppings in parks, ballparks, reservoirs and other public places. However, many different bacteria, viruses, and parasites are present in feces. It is best to avoid exposure to bird droppings. The following precautions should be taken:
- Teach children to always wash their hands after playing outside.
- If you pick up droppings, use a shovel, "pooper scooper," or gloves - never your bare hands.
- If you are worried about exposure during swimming, swim at a regulated beach. Regular tests are conducted to make sure the water is not polluted from human, animal or farm waste.
Adenoviruses are a group of viruses that can infect the membranes (tissue linings) of the respiratory tract, eyes, intestines, urinary tract, and nervous system. They account for about 10% of fever-related illnesses and acute respiratory infections in kids and are a frequent cause of diarrhea.
Adenoviral infections affect babies and young children much more often than adults. Childcare centers and schools sometimes have multiple cases of respiratory infections and diarrhea caused by adenovirus.
Adenoviral infections can occur at any time of the year, but:
- respiratory tract problems caused by adenovirus are more common in late winter, spring, and early summer
- conjunctivitis (pinkeye) and pharyngoconjunctival fever caused by adenovirus tend to affect older kids, mostly in the summer
Adenoviral infections can affect children of any age, but most occur in the first years of life — and most kids have had at least one before age 10. There are many different types of adenoviruses, so some kids can have repeated adenoviral infections.
